First off, great round. Only two doubles is great. The key to better scores (so I’ve heard - I’ve been playing on and off for 25 years and my index is a 16 right now) is not more birdies, it’s eliminating doubles, triples, and what my friends and I call “frown faces” on the scorecard. Second, consistency in golf is a myth. Get that idea of your head and you’ll be much better off. Look at Keith Mitchell’s first round at Shinnecock last week - 41-29-70. PGA Tour golfers also have variance between rounds of 10 to even 20 shots. So if the top 0.0001% of golfers in the world can’t achieve consistency of scoring across 9s within a round or across two rounds, then we shouldn’t let that trouble us mortal weekend players. That challenge and trying to overcome it is what makes golf fun and exciting. The game would be boring if it was easy. Finally, to tie this all together, I cannot recommend highly enough following Jon Sherman (@practical.golf on Instagram) and reading his book - The Four Foundations of Golf. Ever since I started following him, I’ve learned to appreciate and enjoy the game so much more, and become a much smarter golfer. You will not regret reading his book.
