no, indy shops do not really need TechStream to do a lot of routine maintenance work for most Toyotas.. There are plenty of aftermarket scan tools that have Toyota specific functions such as ABS pump cycling you can use to do a brake bleed that mimic what TechStream does. I have a Launch X431Pro scan tool that is a "ok", I wouldn't consider completely professional. It works with some of my cars. For example, on my X5, I can do the electronic parking brake retraction to service the rear brake pads and rotors. I can also do a brake bleed by running the abs pump and also cycle the electric water pump to bleed the cooling system. I can do similar things with my GF's RX. Mu scan tool also has the ability to do some basic recoding, for example, reprogramming convenience features. These more advanced scan tools offer these "manufacturer specific" functions beyond just generic OBDII functions like reading and clear fault codes which a generic Bluetooth $12-20 OBDII scan tool can do. Thse more advanced scan tools costs a lot more money. They can't do all the things that TechStream can do, but they can do most. Just like these tools can't do as much as BMW ISTA, but it can do a lot still. There;s different levels of scan tools. The one I use is this one: https://www.amazon.com/LAUNCH-X431-Programmer-Diagnostic-All-System/dp/B0F2HNM2VH/ref=sr_1_14_sspa, which is around $900-1000. There's more advanced ones that in the $2000-3000 range like the Launch vII Elite: https://www.amazon.com/X431-Intelligent-Diagnostic-Diagnosis-Bi-Directional/dp/B0B1HT1J23 and Autel MaxiCOM and MaxiSyshttps://www.amazon.com/Autel-MaxiSys-Ultra-Lite-MK906BT-3/https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08P47HP15/that run in the $2000-3600 range. It depends on what you are what you are trying to do and the sort of cars that is supported. Higher end cars, like European and exotic typically have spotty support on the less expensive scan tools. These tools also have an annual subscription fee after their initial trial period. Launch's "free" period is 2 years. Autel's "free" period is 1 year. Some cars, you don't need the subscription be active to use the tool. Other kind of cars, you need an active subscription to do things with the car. A lot whether the active subscription is needed to be useful for your car depends on things such as if you car's PCM is encyrpted and needs a regular key exchange with a backend server just to be able to unlock the OEM side of functionality on your PCM. The annual subscription of these tool vary. Launch is cheaper around $200-400/year depending on the number of cars and features you want to keep unlocked... Autel's annual subscription starts around $600-800/year and goes up based on the features you want. If you are serious about diagnosing your car, you are better off trying to get a gray market version of the factory scan tool that does not have an annual subscription, plus it would give you more functionality. For example, BMW has ISTA floating around as free. You just have to get the right cable and install the software on a laptop. I hae ISTA installed but I also use a third party called BimmerCode and Bimmer:Link that was $100 one time fee for both, and does a good portion of basic programing and fault code reading etc. For my Audi, I bought a tool called VAG-COM (VolkswagonAudiGroup), written by a well regarded person in community with no annual subscription. For my Miatas, I have a gray market version of the scan tool. And for my 570s, I'm in the process of buying the gray market version of the factory "MDS" scan tool for around $4000

Hey Im planning on buying this one I think it might be the same as yours https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F2HNM2VH?ref=cm_sw_r_apin_dp_V132K7QX2QQQQ7F59ZHY_1&ref_=cm_sw_r_apin_dp_V132K7QX2QQQQ7F59ZHY_1&social_share=cm_sw_r_apin_dp_V132K7QX2QQQQ7F59ZHY_1&titleSource=true now I was reading the reviews and one of them says your need to be a member of the NASTF and carry a bussiness license carrying 1,000,000$ of insurance to be able to work with keys and securities, was that the same case for your of what was your experience with that?
