If you want the color to stay the same, then you don’t wanna use anything with an oil in it that means solvent polyurethane, wax oil, danish oil, even lacquer. All of those are going to darken the wood a certain degree… to keep it the color it is when it’s wet, you need a waterborne acrylic urethane… It’s called water white meaning it’s clear. It doesn’t add any color at all, and unlike anything with an oil base, it will not darken overtime… and there are many to choose from, but the one I would recommend is the General high-performance in satin or semi gloss… stay away from Polycrylic, it has an inherent bluish cast, and is nowhere near as good a product.… There are many many different ones to choose from but take my word for it. The General product is worth finding… you can also buy and a half pint- pint size, and while not cheap… At least you won’t have a big can of stuff hanging around after the project because you will literally need about a half a cup to finish the entire piece there. It brushes well, it applies well with a paint pad, a good brush made for waterbornes like a Purdy Nylox or similar .. you can even just make a pad out of a piece of microfiber cloth and apply it padded on that way in overlapping strokes… and all of those are better than a foam “brush”.. but pretty forgiving stuff, and it will give you the look you’re after and very good protection https://a.co/d/07MHfkzz
