What do you mean by "basic statistics"? Like, an intro class? Linear regression? If you're reasonably comfortable with math and have some experience with regression, my recommended self-study book for Survival Analysis is Kleinbaum & Klein. It's designed specifically for self-study and has a lot of nice, worked-out examples.
