I'd like to share a discovery I (a yank) made whilst living in Los Angeles when the heat started getting really bad, say around 2015: metal fans. None of these plastic-bladed pieces of crap that barley move any air but a solid, beefy industrial-style fan with metal blades that move far more air than anyone could anticipate. If you want to blow the paint and plaster off your walls, search for "metal fan" on Amazon or wherever you shop and try to find something like this one on the American site: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01M0X1SOY They're loud but they move so much air you won't believe you ever thought your old fans did any good at all. I looked on the .co.uk site but don't know if any of those are the same thing, sorry. A search for "industrial metal fan" gave promising results.
