And if you do want to go with a tester, here is what i use most of the time. I have a much more expensive meter but it is reserved for industrial use. This lil dude will do just about anything a common sparky would need. They can come in handy in vehicles/boats/equipment, too, but they output a low amp, high volt charge on the conductor, so you can very easily destroy expensive electronics if you aren’t careful. I zapped my first oscilloscope to death with mine. Also killed a very expensive and important network switch because a ups was assembled the wrong way. So be careful if you get one. https://www.kleintools.com/catalog/multimeters/insulation-resistance-tester Actually i got to wondering before i posted, too. Are there no name copies of these available now? And there certainly are lol. A good meter will read much smaller ohms, so this one may not be as sensitive or as accurate, but i am curious enough whether it will work for binary troubleshooting of branch wiring. I just ordered one to find out. https://a.co/d/0621CXrD
