These French pins with extra prongs are the only thing that will hold my hip-length 1A hair in a bun--low, high, pony, whatever. Sticks and regular French pins don't work. Sorry that they are from the evil empire, but that's the only place I've found them. I twist my hair into a ponytail, let it coil into a knot at the nape, and then use two pins horizontally parallel to the scalp from opposite directions. For extra security and color/decoration I will often use a knitted scrunchie from Kmellia (you can find dupes). This has to be in addition to the pins; the scrunchie alone won't hold.
