Use thicker coats of paint. I tried nail polosh and found that it needs a thick coat so the paint settles as it dries and looks smooth. Thin coats look awful. Be sure to clean up any droplets of paint that may be hanging from the bottom of the car before you put it up to dry. Also it helps to have something like this to hold the car whie you paint it - https://a.co/d/065cy5IS (amazon link) (There are cheaper ones that work the same but that one has a nice pic to show how it works.) They also sell them at hobby lobby and i think Walmart. Me, i only bought the wire things with the clips on them (theyre stiff but bendable) from hobby lobby for i think $5? and i drilled some holes (3/32" drill bit) in my desk to hold them. Regardless, If you try holding the car with your fingers and you drop it, the car will basically need to be repainted, and that's really frustrating, believe me. And you probably already know you need to use that paint in a well ventilated area (outside, or in a huge room, or right next to an open window with a fan blowing air out). I'm a guy and i dont use nail polish so i learned this the hard way lol Like others said, just do it for a fun activity with your BF and dont expect to make money off it. Customs have to be REALLY, SUPER well done to be sold for any amount of money. Painting them with nail polish is like painting a real car with cans of spraypaint- it works but dont expect to win a trophy at any car shows... Head over to r/diecastcustoms or r/hotwheelscustoms and see what a nice custom looks like. Some of those guys can paint a toy car just as well as Michelangelo painted the ceiling of the Sistine chapel. Or close to it. Also, if you havent already, just google "how to paint [diecast/hot wheels/metal] with nail polish" and i'm sure someone out there has tried it and made a nice tutorial video. I'm actually very new to customizing but this is most of what i have learned so far from research and trial and error. Have fun with it, but again- dont expect to make money off it.
