Hey topdroppy, i will take the initiative and i will tell you that ALWAYS a dGPU is much better than a iGPU but i don't know if a future proof laptop is something that you are looking for. When i mean future proof it means that you will keep it for a lot of years and in case in the future that your needs will change and you would like to play some more demanding games of even to use some heavier software to not face lag issues and have a laptop that will handle everything without any restrictions. This is the reason that i believe that a laptop with dGPU is always the most safe option. Finally, about the 14", i have to inform you that is not a good option due to the high TGP that 14" are offering, so that means that performance is dropping significantly. I'm an engineer and generally as a hobby, i describe myself a laptop enthusiast. I had on my hand a lot of brands (MSI, ASUS, Razer, Lenovo etc) through the years and the last purchase was from Dream Machines. In my humble opinion a laptop with a dGPU RTX 5050 and i5 processor will be perfectly fine for you: - Dream Machines RG5050-15NA30 - Intel i5-13420H/Nvidia RTX 5050 (115W TGP)/15.6" 144Hz IPS FHD (1920×1080) sRGB 100%/512GB SSD/16 GB (2x8 GB DDR5 4800 Mhz)/US Keyboard Price: $1,159.99 Newegg: https://www.newegg.com/dream-machines-rg5050-15-6-geforce-rtx-5050-laptop-gpu-intel-core-i5-13420h-fhd-16gb-memory-512gb-ssd/p/2WC-0037-001X0?Item=9SIBH16KZA0545

Hey lofiedmusic, for light games and software you should use ONLY Windows OS & additionally in my opinion MANDATORY is a dGPU. This is from personal experience. About the Apple Ecosystem, the request is becoming more difficult. I'm an engineer and generally as a hobby, i describe myself a laptop enthusiast. I had on my hand a lot of brands (MSI, ASUS, Razer, Lenovo etc) and the last purchase was from Dream Machines. It's much better to be future proof than to purchase a laptop now and then after some years to replace it because it will not cover your needs. Especially with your budget it's much better to invest to a laptop with dGPU than iGPU. Personally, I think touchscreen laptops are quite poor quality. The screens often get damaged because they're not covered with glass like phones, so frequent touches can damage them. Personally, I think 2-in-1 laptops are just average, and it's better to buy a laptop and a tablet in addition. For a budget of around $1.1k, you can get a laptop with solid components like an Intel Core i5 processor and an RTX 5050 graphics card. This will definitely allow you to play Minecraft with mods and shaders on more than low settings. Typically, laptops of this type have 14-15" screens. This model is 15.6", but I think it's good for your needs, and its price is very reasonable at the moment, considering the RAM and SSD prices. Link
I'm not sure if Lenovo has such a good reputation. There are many threads online where people complain about Lenovo laptops and their service. Dell has a Next Business Day warranty, but I don't know how it works in practice. My wife has a Dell at work and isn't very happy with it, but she has to work with it because the company offers such laptops. I personally use a Dream Machine laptop; you can check out this model: Link It has a fairly powerful i5-13420H processor and an RTX 5060 graphics card. It has 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, but you can choose a different configuration with more memory.
