Dog crates aren't the best option due to the large bar spacing, Especially for ringneck doves (I assuming that's what you mean by doves and not white pigeons) who are much smaller than pigeons but there have been cases of pigeons injuring themselves or even dying because of getting their head/neck stuck in-between the bars, it can happen even easier for doves because they can fit.their head through even through the smaller gaps of a dog crate. You would have to wrap the dog crate in hardware cloth to prevent the doves from sticking their head through. My concern would be that all of your birds need a lot of out of cage time daily but none of them can be out of their cage at the same time. The pigeons will need 6-8 hours of daily out of cage time but they Cannot directly interact neither with the cockatiel nor with the macaw - pigeons can kill a cockatiel and the cockatiel could still seriously injure a pigeon (especially doing damage to their toes or soft beak) and a macaw can obviously extremely easily kill a pigeon. Pigeons are also extremely territorial birds and could attack either of your birds if it got close to or inside of their cage and that could end up being a disaster. So that's something to keep in mind, personally unless you have a spare room where the pigeons could free roam while being completely separated from the parrots I wouldn't get the pigeons. Also just a heads-up, pigeons are Not cuddly pets and it takes a lot of patience to earn their trust, it's also completely normal for them to set their boundaries by pecking or wing-slapping you - they're not the cuddly and docile birds social media make them seem to be. Another thing to consider is that even though XXL dog crates do fit in the minimum cage requirements for pigeons, their bar spacing is way too big and there have been cases of many pigeons (and doves) getting stuck in-between the cage bars and breaking their neck so you would have to wrap the whole dog crate in hardware cloth, another reason for the hardware cloth would be that you wouldn't want your parrots to potentially reach the pigeons through the cage bars - they're big enough for a cockatiel to fit a part of its body (if not whole if your cockatiel happens to be a smaller bird) through the cage bars and the macaw could fit its beak through them. We don't recommend dog crates because there have been way too many cases of birds injuring or even killing themselves by getting stuck between the cage bars because of the way too big bar spacing. But usually doves and pigeons seeds mixes comes in huge bags (less expensive) so it lasts a good while. Seeds don't loose quality over time so you can store them for years too, so it's better to buy a huge less expensive bag. As for the cages I use modular cages (you build them how you want) they're far less expensive than parrot cages too and you're able to add the doors where you want and add as much lenght you want.The one I use is this: https://www.amazon.com/Indoor-Playpen-Outdoor-Detachable-Exercise/dp/B0FR4RMM9X You can also get XXL dog crates, they're cheaper than bird cages and good size wise but be aware that their space bar gap is bigger and can sometimes leads to fatal accidents, even when very rare. Hello! Here's my take on your questions, hope that helps: 1 - If you get a dove, it will likely be a young adult so you can start bonding to your birds right away. But, do not try to act as a mate/partner to your dove, this leads to frustration and behavioral issues, it's a really bad idea (saying that because a lot of people do that unfortunately). Try bonding by giving treats and learning its behavior, and respecting its boundaries :) 2 - One dove is possible but it's a lot of work unless you're present all day along. It's much better to get two at once, you'll avoid the troubles lone bird owner can get (overly hormonal bird, excess cooing, aggressivity, boredom, ...). Imo just take two, it's less work, more rewarding for you and better for your pets' health and happiness. As to what sexes, personnally I would pick male/female but two of the same sex can work too, and you'll avoid the whole "replace the real eggs with fake eggs" as they lay all year around. I wouldn't wait in between either, I did that for my diamond doves and my first diamond dove was just... lonely during that time and it didn't make her closer to me. Two doves will bond to you all the same as a single one would ;) talking from experience, I was in both cases 3 - I mean, depends on the person I suppose ? Make sure none of their birds are sick, and that they aren't cramed into the aviary or acting too skittish or aggressive ? 4 - The cage you showed looks too small and unusable because of the platform (unless it can be removed ?), doves needs a flight cage were they can fly from a perch to another. 100cm width (39 inches) at least, for the depth two times their wingspans so they don't bump into the cage bars while moving.
