Hey, u/beachbabe77, If I may make a recommendation for OP, without overstepping on what you’re comfortable spending, I’d suggest a couple of things that will give the best results. Capstar is the best first step to kill the fleas currently on kitty. It’s basically a “fresh start,” so to speak. After that, I’d follow up with Vectra for Cats, which is a monthly topical flea treatment that kills fleas on contact within about 6 hours without requiring them to bite your cat. It also helps break the flea life cycle by preventing the development of eggs, larvae, and pupae, providing ongoing protection for the month. If we’re being honest, keeping kitty indoors is the best long-term solution, but if that isn’t something OP is likely to do, treating the outdoor environment is also important. Flea eggs and larvae can hang out in the yard and bring the cycle right back. If OP has a yard and a garden hose, I’d start by giving the yard a “fresh start/clean slate” as well. A yard treatment like Black Flag spray can help knock down the current flea population, and then I’d keep up with regular maintenance by applying food grade diatomaceous earth to areas where kitty spends time, such as shaded areas, under decks, along fences, etc. The goal is to break the flea life cycle in both places, on kitty and in the environment, because treating only one side usually leads to the fleas coming right back. Again, this isn’t intended to tell you where to spend your funds on a stranger, just hopefully provide a guide to help OP with a long term plan and give some options that may help prevent the issue from continuing.
