So when I started my nail journey I kept them bare of polish for 4 months. I oiled the entire nail after every hand wash, and morning and night. I inevitably had peeling for the first 2 months. I used a buffer very lightly and brush with the peel not against it.I lightly buff it and check frequently to make sure i don't overdo it. By month 4 the peeling stopped and then I started using base coat and eventually colored polishes. I continue to oil now when wearing polish. I oil around the nail (the cuticle and skin surrounding nail,) and under my free edge. I still oil a few times a day. I also oil the entire nail between polish changes. I use these buffers https://a.co/d/05jpduXL I use these glass files https://a.co/d/0fO78lri I don't use clippers and only shorten with a real Czech glass file. I make sure to file in 1 direction only. Never back and forth. I used squalane in place of jojoba oil but either is fine. I also use grapeseed and light sesame seed oils. Originally I was using just the light sesame seed oil and the grapeseed oils. It's probably why it took 4 months instead of just 2 months to fix the peeling edges. I also was filing every 4 days but that is probably not necessary. Once a week would probably work just as well. I was breaking a habit of biting my nails and needed my edge to be smooth at all times. I hope this information helps. I am curious how long you used just oil before starting base coat? I really think keeping them bare, and focusing on oiling until the nails grow out the peeling, can fix the peeling issues. I do know the thumb and index fingers are used the most and therefore more susceptible to peeling. We have to try not to use them as tools as well. I've gone so far as to buy little plastic tools for opening my Red Bulls.
