Just for reference, I have a 36” gate I was hoping would deter my cat as needed but she jumped it fairly easily lol. She’s about 1.5 years old and not too high of energy so I think most young and active cats could jump those if they want to. She’s also managed once to squeeze between the bars in one spot, though she almost got stuck and hasn’t tried it again. 😂 Got to her squishy pouch area and almost couldn’t get her hips through lol. The spot where she squeezed through is about 2.5”! 🤦🏼♀️ It’s this gate just for reference: https://a.co/d/0cAejHwu The bars right where the handle is on the top are just slightly wider and she took full advantage lol.
Best thing to do is put the box somewhere the dog can’t get to it. I use a top entry litter box for my cat currently. Or you could put the litter box elevated somewhere. Or you could put in a baby gate. I have this gate, which works well. The adjustable cat door was super helpful for me, because I was able to make it small enough that my cat can fit through but my 15lb dog can’t.
