not at all, unless you're in the "don't wear anything on your hands to prevent callouses". Yes there are people who scoff at gloves, but I prefer my hands stay as soft as possible, as I work with my hands. I wear neoprine half gloves, they go to the first knuckle OR neoprine squares, that you place between your hand and the weight for better grip, serves the same purpose. The neoprine is exceptionally grippy, that's why I like it.
