It depends on how fine we need to strain/filter. For things we want on the clearer side, we use a vacuum filtration setup. Filters can be had down to .2 microns. We've found no need to filter below 2 microns (a human hair is 50-70 microns). Standard coffee filters have a pore size of 10-20 microns but can allow for fine sediment in the final product. If your needs are more basic, a chinois lined with cheesecloth or, better yet, a flour sack towel is a great option. We use a chinois paired with a flour sack towel for much of our straining/filtering needs. It's a popular setup in commercial kitchens for things like bone broth, which is typically desired to be very clear. If you're finding that your product stops flowing, changing out the filter as needed or vacuum filtration is the answer

Cutting up a blanket the edges might fray in the wash, but it should otherwise be doable. These are inexpensive and easy to add to diapers: https://a.co/d/0g9nD2aA
