I like over-ear headphones partially for this reason. One being that I can't stand having something IN my ear hole for very long at all, and the other being the lack of awareness. I've had a really nice pair of Bose earbuds with an awareness mode but it took some getting used to and in my work environment there were often very sudden noises that the speakers didn't handle well. I went through SO MANY headphones at my last job, trying to find ones that I liked after one agreeable pair got messed up. Idk why I didn't just buy them again, I kept trying to find something better... I still wanna try some of the bone conduction ones, but I feel like all my hair would be an issue. Anyway these are pretty much the best headphones I've had. The touch controls are simple and responsive enough that you can just use your shoulder if your hands are occupied, and if you don't have the volume cranked you can hear everything around you. I've worn them for 12 hours at a time with no discomfort, and that's special because I have weird ears and I'm pretty sensitive.
