Regarding furniture, see what you can find via typical internet resources but if you have the money treat yourself to a nice new mattress. Most people still don't seem to understand that Amazon hands mattresses away. You can get a hybrid mattress like this for $249 and a metal frame like this for $113. (The only catch with these mattresses in a box is you can't just open them and sleep on it that night. You have to give them time to rise and de-gas. If you know where you're going to be living before you move and have someone who could help you, you could have them set it up before you arrive.)
