I love the Barbara Walker treasuries. They are classics, and the keystone of my knitting library. Maybe you can ask for them as gifts? I used to work at a yarn store, and people came in all the time saying, "My wife / sister / brother / mother loves to knit, and I'd like to get her something..." One skein of hand-dyed yarn can easily cost more than Volume 1 of the Barbara Walker treasuries.
