Have you tried cleaning your laser on your ps2 recently? It’s possible the game needs to be resurfaced, but I was having an issue where I thought it was the games and then it ended up being my laser on my PS2 that I eventually cleaned, either you can do it with a disk that they sell on Amazon for like 10 bucks or you can do it yourself with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip, granted it is a lot easier to do on a PS2 slim. https://a.co/d/0ddFYRy9
