Boutique PC console is not competing with the entertainment machine of the everyman. This is the inversion of the standard console experience where the hardware is sold at a loss and made up with higher software sales (the printer/ink model). Instead they sell cheap as fuck games in an open ecosystem, none of which is sold at a loss for Valve, and then a value added piece of hardware for those that are hardcore enough to want something shiny looking when easier and cheaper solutions already exist. The issue is that playing games on a PC on a couch is already easy as fuck. It costs 12 dollars you can just hook up an existing PC to your TV, but they aren't really competing with that. Hell, you can stream it to damn near any modern TV if you got wired internet to your TV or good enough wifi. They aren't even competing with that either. They straight up are not competing at all, they are literally just doing their own thing.
