This question resonates with me - my grandmother taught me some quilting basics when I was younger and then I found resources years later to re-learn after she passed and I inherited her sewing machine. I used a lot of Suzy Quilts’s YouTube videos, plus this book - first time quilt making: learning to quilt in six easy lessons. The book has good images to show steps and I still pull it out from time to time to jog my memory on certain steps. It’s organized around a simple quilt pattern you make - I would work on this one first to built up some skills before being ready to finish the project your grandmother wanted to make for you. I have also taken some online classes with Lo and Behold Stitchery (triangle school and curve college). Her courses have great videos to walk you through a particular project and I believe she has one geared to beginners making a quilt. I also love the entertainment of Stitch with Rachel on YouTube if you’re looking for videos to inspire you.
