When I got a trailer for my dog I went and got one that was also a stroller so it had a third wheel that I never really used but it allowed me to have a handlebar at the top this made it easy to attach safety lights. The other thing I did is buy a Python Master Lock lock with a 20 ft cable that way I could wire both the trailer and the bike without having to unhitch. I didn't commute everyday with it but I would commute three times a week to the local dog park about 5 miles each way. The other thing I did and it's something I always do with a bike is put a white light in my front tire a red light in my back tire and a red and green light to denote direction (using airplane lighting rules). The only thing that surprised me and this was something I wasn't used to was that I could feel when my dog would shift because the spring on the connection would bounce a little and I was using a series 700 Giant 21 speed, now I'm using a rad runner Plus and my cargo/dog trailer has evolved to have springs but everything else is it exactly the same. If you have lighting or if you have a flag there's no real issue the only time I had problems was where I used to live they put two bollards on the bike path which made it so you couldn't bring a trailer through there since it was sized wrong (basically they put a Ballard right in the center of each bike lane space instead of the standard one in the center making it so that there was not enough space or a wider trailer as there was a soft shoulder on each side and no way for me to stay on the pavement without getting off my bike and walking it through the center where I only had about an inch on each side (mind this is a spot that was brought up multiple times with the Parks department but still took them 6 years to fix) This is a version of my bike trailer the nice thing about it is that it had a hard bottom that I could put a dog bed in and if I needed a flatbed I could just fold everything down as well as the one I had came with a rain cover (I actually stopped driving to the store and started biking to the store because I can carry everything I needed in it) https://a.co/d/04oR5UT5
