I used to have a Silverstone Sugo SG05 M-ITX build with i5-2500K and GTX 460 as my gaming HTPC. I got tired of building PCs a while back so I wanted to just buy a Steam Machine. Not at $1K though ($1.2K with controller). Laptop has too big a footprint and I'm not comfortable keeping it in clamshell mode with a vertical laptop stand like this while I'm playing. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B091B4SWR7/?th=1

It's really really bad for your hinges. These hinges are made to hold up your laptop screen for ±4 years. Your screen weights max 250 grams plus the strength points are somewhere on the bottom of the main chassis. They are not made to hold up 2 kilograms/2000 grams in a motion for the inside motion of the hinges. The strain on the hinges is at least 8 times higher than what they're build for. It's also very bad for your posture. If you want your laptop to be in a safe position and save space, there are lifted stands like This 1. And there's way more fancy ones available as well. Or if you want to have a 2nd display, you can get something like this Ugreen 1 and get a 2nd monitor.
