Well, I have done my research on that as well (electrical engineer with BS & MS here who did not practice after switching to IT since 1996) and here is what I found The baseline voltage drop rate for a 1-1-1-3 aluminum cable (which consists of three 1 AWG aluminum current-carrying conductors and a 3 AWG bare ground) is 0.0506 V per amp per 100 feet for a single-phase 240 V circuit, or 0.0438 V per amp per 100 feet for a three-phase circuit. [1, 2, 3, 4] So, say it is 200 ft of cable between distribution panel ad my service box. In the light of this calculation, my voltage drop would be about one volt, which in most electrical equipment is an acceptable deviation.
