I just looped the strap around that and then the vertical posts of my setup. Trick is getting the lengths set right so you're not angled relative to your wheel/monitor but once you do, it stays at those lengths. I've seen other people use velcro straps as well but I didn't want to have to reset the lengths every time. I suppose you could mark the velcro straps but since I had these and never used them, I just sent it. To tidy them up, I just taped the excess strap to itself with black electrical tape. You could also cut them to length but you should then take a lighter and melt the ends a little so they don't fray.
