I got an Alesis Nitro Max for $400 USD. It's a good budget kit... And I wanted budget because I didn't know if I was going to play it for a week and never touch it again or if I would love it and continue drumming. I did continue drumming and continue to love it. So I did a few upgrades that turned my $400 kit into a kit that feels like it's more in line with the higher end kits. Here's what I did... I got the expansion pack that added an extra symbol and Tom ($100) I purchased $12 table risers and lifted the kit 4 inches, because I'm tall https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BHW3P7DH?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_4 I purchased an extra frame for the kit for $60 on eBay (frame only) and I doubled up the supports so it doesn't wobble and feels tighter, and more sturdy The hi-hat is pretty bad and I got this custom module that lets you use a real kick pedal and makes the whole thing feel way more real. https://www.drumic.eu/ Got a lemon snare and snare stand so it's not attached to the frame. Reduced a ton of wobble https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CZY2SX1Q If I were you, I'd start with the basics and if she sticks with it then maybe check out the four things above and it really turns it into a quality kit, on a much lighter budget than what a Roland or similar costs. Here's the end result, probably about $700 total (excluding the throne).
