You need a chef knife, and a utility/petty knife. I rarely use paring knives, occasionally use a bread knife or slicer, but I haven't had time for baking bread in quite a long time. How broke are you? You can get these two knives made by Victorinox or Mercer, very inexpensively. MY mom wanted a new chef knife, but we've been cutting back our spending on gifts in our family. I gave her this one:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N6ZS8FH?ref_=ppx_hzod_title_dt_b_fed_asin_title_0_0&th=1 It was a lot less expensive than that four years ago. :/ Here's another one I bought a while back. It's got high reviews, and is less expensive than the Mercer:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DDBJF12?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1&th=1 And here's a Henkels for $36:https://ebay.io/m/nbVyaz
