Keeping things clean is always a net positive when dealing with ants, but I've seen homes that were brand new built never had a drop of food in them, and were still being overrun with tiny ants so don't drive yourself crazy. If you're comfortable using a professional product, and mixing up your own pesticide this stuff works great for ants. Always read the label, and comply with your state's pesticide laws. Alpine WSG The terro ant baits get mixed results. I've heard advion ant bait works better, but baits are always going to work slower than using the Alpine WSG I linked.
