Welcome to being a new bird owner. I just rescued my parents' 40yo African Grey that they could no longer care for. Let me drop some links of what I found useful to start with: Cage:Yaheetech 69-inch Wrought Iron Rolling Large Parrot Bird Cage for African Greyhttps://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VWLEC00?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title Food:I feed three things. I buy all three and mix them and then prep a 30-day supply in Ziplock "Snack-size" bags: Goldenfeast VL Central American Blend, 3 lb Bag, Naturalhttps://www.amazon.com/dp/B092SSJD2G?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title ZuPreem FruitBlend Bird Pellets, Daily Bird Food for Parrothttps://a.co/d/0dmJYhtm LAFEBER'S Senior Bird Nutri-Berries Pet Bird Food, Made with Non-GMO and Human-Grade Ingredients, for Parrots, 3 lbhttps://a.co/d/0eHxp6NK I mix the food as follows:20% Goldenfeast (I buy it for the dried fruit, chilis, and the nuts80% Zupreem6 Senior Pellets per day My grey LOVES the Senior Pellets, but I understand that it's hit-or-miss whether your bird will love it or hate it. My grey eats all 6 before even considering anything else. Toys:My bird LOVES to chew. Clean, untreated pure pine boards and dowels cut into pieces from Home Depot are the most cost effective. He also loves the Uhaul packing paper (it's newsprint with no ink on it). He chews that like it's the best thing ever. He loves the bell/rope that comes with the cage listed above. Get an additional perch for his cage. Treats:Raw & unsalted walnutsRaw, unsalted, blanched almonds Break pieces into Green (English) Pea sizes or smaller. I typically break my almond slivers in 1/3s. Training:Get a dog clicker. African Greys are crazy smart. If you spent a couple of 3 - 5 minute sessions sitting near your Grey, not doing anything to get their attention and when they are quiet/calm: click/treat. repeat. They will quickly learn after a few sessions of 10 click/treat looks that that sound = good things happen. You can now use this sound to reinforce ANY behavior you like. Greys don't take negative feedback well. Reward good and ignore bad. Time + Reward will minimize bad stuff. But, you are dealing with a permanent toddler. They are never growing past this. My guy is adorable and loving and has good times and bad. He gets frustrated when I ask him to step up and he doesn't want to. Stay calm. Be patient. Within a few minutes, he has always done it. Feel free to ask here or DM any other questions you have.
