Here late, but maybe it will help someone. I have bipolar type 2. I have tried just about every pharmaceutical drug at low and high doses (3-4 at the same time) for 6 years with hardly any relief. Finally tried some Kava looking for anxiety relief as a natural remedy. It was a small bottle (liquid) at 7-11 and seemed to provide relief similar to Ativan. It was expensive so I found a pill form on Amazon. After 2-3 days (500mg a day) I felt a huge difference in my depression and anxiety. None of the pharmaceuticals ever provided this type of relief. Of course my Doctors said not to take it as it can cause liver damage. After some research I found out that only if taken in high doses of more than 1000mg over a long period of time (more than 6 months) could damage occur. Then they said it could make the depression worse, and cause sedation. So basically the same side effects of any other antidepressants 🙄. I'm not going to stop taking it. I gave traditional medicine 6 years to help me and nothing, they just don't want you to take a natural remedy. Few things to look out for when getting Kava in pill form. Find Kava that is CO2 extracted. This ensures better purity, and no chemical residues. 2)Look for at least 30% or more of Kavalactones (the active part of Kava). The one I take is 55% so I don't need a high dose. Quality Kava on Amazon. The link is the one I am taking. Kava has reverse tolerance. So starting out you may not feel too much, but it will be more effective as time goes on. Be patient and let it work. Good luck everyone. Edit : Also double check which medications you're on to make sure it won't interact with it. Most of the time it just increases the effect of the existing medication.
