As a psychologist once told me, we are descended from anxious people. The primed neurotransmitter pathways that kept iron age people from getting eaten by lions and alert in a less secure time was an evolutionary advantage. I forget all the anatomy, but once your caveman brain (amgydala?) is fired up, it shuts the pathways for other signals to through because not getting distracted when running from the bear was a matter of survival. Apparently your ancestors were really good at not getting eaten by sabertooth tigers which has made your modern life a little tricky. It has translated less well in the modern, bear free world, and these last few years are anxiety provoking even for people who don’t usually have anxiety. I really like this book. https://www.amazon.com/Taming-Your-Amygdala-Brain-Based-Strategies/dp/1683735080/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?adgrpid=99606916209&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.biO3SoNs7-KCe7I3bCyW1sPvLFOJFW3-6QiFM7ccvh6K50CYUeyo-PRSSpDOT0F9dECiFnxmyjOEexiQ5d9SmXbG0-HrUSb-KZDBqjhmUMd2Ys_LJyq2-boDO-QwowhGZprbanARMkcMLsA6GlPByy9WzQyfiVJlYwGZ7TC2EA0mPt9qkSJ49Yv7mdRf5zM8.SsWennyqGjVa6HX2OInQpcr8QAKUywYTCQ_iZl8VXQo&dib_tag=se&hvadid=617133985877&hvdev=m&hvexpln=0&hvlocphy=1016902&hvnetw=g&hvocijid=3394207736776991440--&hvqmt=e&hvrand=3394207736776991440&hvtargid=kwd-1685132616404&hydadcr=15153_13597729&keywords=taming+your+amygdala&mcid=3a66e93f9db53733b3cf895be3585dc4&qid=1764883095&sr=8-1

Z drugs can help with sleep. There is also dark therapy This book was a revelation to me about how the anxious brain works. The author is a professor at my college and she did a workshop at one of our reunions.
