It’s not that this information is being gatekept, it’s that long range precision shooting is a complex discipline that defies a simple explanation. To answer your question about a 350 yard shot, you’d need to know, at bare minimum, the following information: muzzle velocity, bullet weight, bullet ballistic coefficient (G1 or G7), optic mount height, zero distance, elevation, temperature, and wind conditions. Add velocity at impact and bullet expansion thresholds for hunting. This is not an exhaustive list of things you’d need to consider for longer shots. You can certainly get a ballistic calculator and mess around with those data but if you don’t understand what you’re doing you’ll quickly run into Consequences. Best place to start would be to pick up this book, read it cover to cover, then get a chronograph, a ballistic calculator, and a couple hundred rounds of ammo and get to the range.
