I do read the genre pretty heavily. The majority of these types books are more focused on the tactics and strategy and big picture type thing. Usually you will get some profiles/mini-bios of the main commanders, details on the strategy or tactics of campaigns, usually interspersed with first hand accounts from diaries are the like to liven it up. Not that there aren't any books which focus on the home front, like this one. There are some women working in the field though, Dr. Sarah Paine comes to mind, she has some pretty engaging lectures up online too: h https://youtu.be/ETwpDE6yhaU?si=tVCSLEbZ5lsGSqIF&t=558
