Give it a couple of weeks then start watching for the melons. As soon as you see one, put a fruit protection cage on it. I attach it over a section of the vine, then, when the melon falls off, I bring it inside to finish drying out before harvesting the seeds. These are the cages I bought last year that seemed to work for me. [Amazon - Fruit cages] (https://a.co/d/046QcuWx) ETA: We love watching the squirrels, the dog loves to chase them of course. But, they are usually thinned out by thr fall thanks to hawks and owls.
