Below are some essential care guidelines to ensure your new tree gets established and thrives in its new home. The first three years are crucial to the tree's health and will require your attention to ensure proper growth. Watering Water is key to successfully establishing a tree, especially in Central Texas. For the first 2-3 years, your main responsibility will be making sure your tree receives adequate water. We've added a mulch layer to help retain moisture, slow evaporation, and reduce competition from other plants. Watering Instructions: Hose Method: Run your hose at a low flow near the base of the tree for about 10 minutes for a 30/45-gallon tree, or 5 minutes for a 15-gallon tree. The goal is to supply roughly half the container volume of water per session (e.g., 7.5 gallons for a 15-gallon tree, 15 gallons for a 30-gallon tree). It is a good idea to move the hose to a different side of the tree each time you water to ensure that all sides of the root ball receive water. Best Time: If possible, water your tree in the evening. Watering Schedule: 1-2 weeks after planting: Water daily. 3-12 weeks after planting: Water every 2-3 days. After 12 weeks: Water once a week (October-April), and twice a week (May-September). During extreme heat or drought: Deep soak every other day if necessary. If we receive about an inch of rainfall in a week, you can usually skip watering. Overwatering is rare, but if you notice standing water near your tree, it may indicate poor drainage—contact us if this occurs.
