Get a grill that has vents which can be closed. If you're going to be carrying it back and forth to the roof, get one that with a lid that clamps closed to avoid spills in transport, like this 14" Cuisinart. https://www.cuisinart.com/14-portable-charcoal-grill/CCG-190.html Weber also makes a 14" Smokey Joe variant with a wire clamp that holds the lids down by the handle. I had one years ago with the wire closure that was perfect for tailgating. By the time the game was over, it was extinguished and cool enough to throw in the back of my old 4runner. 14" grills are fine for 1-2 people. But if you're going to cook for more then consider stepping up to an 18" or 22" Kettle. Also get a small galvanized steel ash can with a tight fitting lid, and a small fireplace shovel or garden trowel and some welder's gloves in case of "events" in wind. Something like this is good for ash and can handle burning coals in emergencies, but shop around because they can be found for less $$: https://www.amazon.com/Outdoor-Garbage-Galvanized-Resistant-Charcoal/dp/B0GH7M3M69
