I'm not sure what size you have in mind nor how many colors but the Van Gogh Pocketbox is probably what I would take on a 3 week trip. If you don't want to use the colors in the palette you can pop out the pigment squares and fill the pans with your own. If you do decide to do this, hit me up, I have some tips for you. Hate to keep posting this but it keeps coming up! You would not have a problem with cross contamination from your pans either.
