Prismacolors are the best pencils for getting full saturation out of a color with the least pressure. I don't think you'll be able to find a more 'hand friendly' brand. I would go ahead and buy a set from Hobby Lobby. The "quality issues" are exaggerated. They are mostly things of no importance to the drawing experience. If you use the right kind of pencil sharpener there is no particular breakage problem whatever. This is the right kind of sharpener: https://www.amazon.com/Deli-Pencil-Sharpener-Manual-Professional/dp/B0F8T9LN56/ref=sr_1_7 This has a helical cutter inside. It has 10 cutting edges and it puts much less stress on any pencil you use. There are dozens of companies that make them. This is just one example. Check out the video attached to that Amazon ad to see how it works.
