When I originally started reading the bible I ended up hitting a wall because I didn’t have a good interpretive lens to help me to understand the material. I also found out that I had made a mistake starting at the beginning (Genesis). Christianity, unlike Judaism, is meant to focus around the coming of God into the world through Jesus Christ. For that reason, the best way to start reading the bible is from the Gospels first, and then the rest of the New Testament, followed by the Old Testament. I would recommend The Word on Fire Bible: Gospels as an optimal place to start, because it contains roughly 2/3 commentary from one of the oldest traditions in Christianity, and it’s specifically designed for those people who have never picked up a Bible before. https://www.amazon.com/Word-Fire-Bible-Gospels/dp/1943243557
