As was said; practice is key. Here's a few other things that'll help Minimize setup/cleanup time: Ideally this would mean having a dedicated spot. If this isn't possible, have a system that keeps as much of your setup together and ready-to-go. Doesn't have to be complicated, a tray or a box big enough to hold your tools & current project is all you really need. Schedule your painting time: Doesn't have to be every day, just needs to be consistent. Consistency is what will help you streamline your process. Be sloppy: Mini painting is an additive process. So, learning to understand and plan to fix mistakes in following steps, rather than focusing on not making any will drastically improve your speed; especially with basecoats. USE A BIGGER BRUSH The biggest mistake folks make when starting out is using brushes that are waaaaaay too small. Small brushes do not give more control, nor are they better for details. They just hold less paint. Which means less coverage per trip to the palatte. What you need is a large brush, with a fine point. Personally, I do 90% of my painting with a size 7. But, when starting out, I recommend a 4 or 5. This chart will give you a better idea.
