Im sorry for ur loss. Losing my cat the same way led me to catios. After losing her I adopted 2 from shelter and months after the CDS sent me 2 hah so now we have 1 2nd floor window catio. And one from amazon in the back. But I started with this: https://a.co/d/0gu9tZLu As I have no real woodworking tools/skills.

That's great that you're getting them an upgrade! The recommended minimum size for 2 females is 10 square feet, and for a single pig the recommended minimum is 8 square feet. Those are quite a bit larger than most of the cages that pet stores sell, but the good news is that there are lots of options to order online and it is also very easy and less expensive to do it yourself if you'd like - you could frame it to your parents as a great family activity to do together and also a great learning opportunity for you to get hands-on skills. The most popular style by far is called a C&C cage. You can browse examples here: https://www.cagetopia.com/ All you need to make them yourself is a sheet of coroplast (usually found at hardware stores like Home Depot or the equivalent) and a set of metal storage cube grids (example: https://www.amazon.ca/Amazon-Basics-Stackable-Storage-12-Inches/dp/B0BY2PKY5X ) There are lots of tutorials online for how to put it together. For everything else, here are two excellent care guides that I highly recommend, they will walk you through everything you need to know to care for them well: https://www.guinealynx.info/healthycavy.html https://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/threads/getting-started-essential-information-for-new-owners.196874/ Hope that helps!
