As someone who recently went a bit overboard buying fishing gear on Black Friday deals, closeouts and Facebook marketplace, I've learned that getting a good deal isn't always the most important thing. The best rod is the one you actually use. The biggest waste of money is a rod in storage, or broken as there a bit of a learning curve on how to safely travel with rods without breaking them. Probably not a bad thing to have a cheaper setup for your first one in that regard. This rod is probably fine for freshwater use, but quality is nothing special, nor is the price. $109 is the everyday price, not on sale, that was selling for under $90 in February. (Edit: You didn't mention it but guessing part of the price was having them spool it for you? That would be more reasonable) Generally though, you can probably find a better combo for the money second hand, and try different styles until you know what works best for you before spending real money.
