Congrats on the move! You did that alone with a baby and a dog and a 12/hr job?! Truly amazing, mama!! I like your instincts here. For example, using the sofa as a divide is almost always a smart move. But what I feel when I look at this room is squeeeeeezed, so the first thing I might do is play with space. Let's breathe in here! I think I want to flip this room around! A few options to consider: Couch on the wall with the fringe; tv stand more centered on current wall (under the sun); big chair in AC corner or maybe on the other side ; packnplay a bit further away from TV. (I see now the L of the sofa which might make this a harder layout.) TV on wall with fringe; big chair remains in current corner; sofa moves under the sun. This could be great with the L shape of your sofa. In any layout case - do you use the "seating" part of your counter? If not, I would consider tucking the dining table under the overhang a bit and having your walkway be on the other side. This will really open up the room with either option above. Once you have things in place with a better flow you can move your decor around accordingly. I think you can keep everything you have, no need to really edit - even the stool can be repurposed as a plant/lamp stand until needed. I'm also a huge fan of use-what-you-have design when on a tight budget. Look around your home with a new eye and see how you might move little things around for a new way to appreciate them. Lastly, if you can tighten up the lights so they don't drape, I think it's a more mature look. You can get sick-on wire guides to hold them in place. I also prefer a blank wall to hanging something too small. If you have several small things - group them for bigger impact (if they work together), and keep some blank space. You'll fill it eventually! Cheap frame and lovely floral print shirt you'll never wear - boom, art! (I have some of that on my own wall.) There's tons of ways to bring in art and design without having to spend too much. But first get your layout down and the rest will follow. Best of luck to you, lady!
