Does it eventually describe events and the people involved in them in terms of connection with other people or events, dynamic relationships, cause and effect, etc? Or does it simply continue to catalogue names and dates for another 370 pages? With a book, you can dip into it at the halfway point or towards the end to see what its style is. It's a non-fiction book - you won't give away a surprise ending. Perhaps you could tell us if it continues on page 200 and page 400 like that? Via Google, the contents shows that different time periods are written about by different people. https://www.google.co.uk/books/edition/Russia/_xBkabfpfXwC?hl=en This allows you to see the contents, and the first pages of the first Chapter. (Click on Table of Contents button). The first pages don't seem to be as you have described. The Amazon reviews are a bit mixed - some saying it does not cover well known historical events well. https://www.amazon.com/Russia-History-Gregory-L-Freeze/dp/0199560412
