I recently read "James" by Percival Everett and it's really stuck with me. It's a re-imagining of Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn from Jim's point of view as a highly intelligent, capable person. It's funny and deeply introspective and upsetting all at the same time. Highly recommended.
