This is a a well reasoned point, but I would point out the seminal work on Nazi Germany culture is literally titled "They thought they were free: The germans, 1333 to 1945" by Milton Meyer. The thing about freedom is that everyone gets it, including shitty people who do shitty things with it. It's the right for them to try to do whatever they want event wise, and it's the right of other folks to not associate with them or any organizations that do associate with them. If the choice of that folks causes organizations to re-evaluate their association with said shitty person, that is called accountability.
