Use a small tension rod inside the window frame, and get a smaller short blackout curtain that fits within the dimensions of your window to sit flush on the window glass. This extra layer pretty much solves the light leaking issue, and you can still pull it back for light and outside views when you want it. Also you want to get rod pocket curtains for the best light seal. The fabric should be as flush to the wall or window frame as possible. Eyelets and tabs gape and allow light in. These are the curtains I got for our two bedrooms windows, but of course your dimensions are probably different. They wouldn't be thick enough on their own, but as a layer under the outer full blackout drapes, they're perfect. https://a.co/d/09K7nCVi These are the best deal on small tension rods, I swear by them and have them on every window in the house, even just for privacy sheers. https://www.target.com/p/28-34-48-34-round-spring-tension-curtain-rod-nickel-room-essentials-8482/-/A-11098639 I've been a night owl my entire life, night shift for twenty years, and this has been my setup for the past twelve years.
