I always do far too much research before buying something new, so seeing someone ask if a metal detector is good AFTER buying it kinda made me laugh. You've clearly done some research, though. I can't speak for that metal detector. However, I'd get the best one in your budget. Generally speaking, the cheaper the detector, the more likely you will be to lose interest. My plan was to start very simply: just the detector and a small folding trench shovel. Is that enough for the beginning, or do most people use a proper full-size spade? When I started, I had a dull normal shovel, a fiskars steel gardening knife, and a cheap folding trench shovel that I found in the garage. If I were to pick one of those, it'd be the fiskars. I very quickly picked up these: https://a.co/d/025CtgHc https://a.co/d/0fClpMUh https://a.co/d/03CAtgZO They're all highly rated and strong as hell. It makes cutting through roots, rocks, and digging nice plugs so much better. But that fiskars is damn good, especially for the price. I also do not have a pinpointer yet. I understand what it is for, but I am not sure whether I should buy one immediately. Is detecting without a pinpointer really annoying, or is it manageable at first? And would a cheap pinpointer be good enough for starting out, or is that usually a waste of money? You can detect without one. Some people do. But most will tell you that without one, you're going to find metal detecting far less enjoyable. I can't speak personally about the cheaper ones, but reviews I saw while researching convinced me to buy this guy https://a.co/d/0iiQZ2il
