Tell your manager to go fuck himself. Check out the book back mechanic by Stuart Mcgill, he's the guy for back issues. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FKSGJYC?lv=shuf&channelId=500&plpRedirect=mhFallback I'm dealing with a herniated disc right now and this book cleared up a lot of misconceptions for me.
Buy this book and do everything it says https://a.co/d/0j2jXvcc
I have a partially herniated disc in L5/S1. I have just been working with a PT to get my core stronger and work on my flexibility. I did my first powerlifting meet 1 year after injuring it. There are still days where I load up and I just put it back on the rack because it doesn't feel right.. There are other days where the same weight is trivial. For me squats put the most strain on my lower back. DL for whatever reason doesn't seem to bother it that much anymore. That said. it was DL that injured it in the first place. I also used this book - Back Mechanic by Dr. Stuart McGill (2015-09-30): Stuart McGill: 9780973501827: Amazon.com: Books. Its a great resource.
