Variable speed is an absolute must. You want to be able to use the bits at the correct, and safe, speed. You will need an actual chuck. None of that slip fit stuff like you'll find on the really cheap engraver tools. Beyond that it really doesn't matter. I have also used my wife's cheap Amazon one, goxawee is the brand I think. It's fine. It's not the best in the world, but it'll work for getting started and seeing if this is how you want to proceed. Found that cheap one on Amazon.
